Summary/Abstract: As part of a series of texts on the metaphysical assumptions on which some of our most important commitments are based, in this article I trace the conceptual, theoretical framework of an analysis of human rights, respectively of the metaphysical presuppositions on which they are based. I follow the genesis of the position on human rights starting from the analysis of the arrangements in ancient communities based on privilege, passing through the stages of religion, philosophy, politics, until the nowadays affirmation of human rights. I announce my intention to continue the analysis with the study of Locke’s position on the matter of rights as one that explicitly assumes their metaphysical foundation.
