Summary/Abstract: Thanks to Plato, for the first time in Greek culture, psyche and logos together reveal another mode of philosophical knowledge. The religiosity of “divine” Plato has been considered merely a vehicle of his philosophy by most commentators on his work. But what if we accept that in the Phaidon dialog the theory of ideas is inconceivable apart from belief in a logos that leads the psyche to “being”! Reading more closely the words of the “storyteller” Phaidon, I will show that for Plato human reason cannot be disentangled from religious beliefs, just as, in the very example he gives at the beginning of the dialog, pleasure cannot be disentangled from pain.
