Summary/Abstract: This article explores the value and risks of using artificial intelligence (AI) in activities that require creative and formative mental effort. The guiding question of this criticăl reflection stems from the assumption that delegating thinking to automated systems is in opposition to the development of the human capacity for autonomous thinking. Consequently, the question raised is what beneficial attitudes are necessary for users to understand and use AI tools in ways that preserve and enhance their own faculties of critical, creative and collaborative thinking. The author explores relevant literature from fields such as philosophy of technology, ethics, and cognitive psychology, and offers a critical reflection on the use of AI tools like ChatGPT, DeepSeek and Character.ai. The discussion highlights both the potential of these tools to stimulate ideas and their limitations in the practice of philosophical dialogue. The author argues that users are easily diverted from philosophical exercise, tempted to indulge in a process of pseudo-psychotherapy and parasocial relationships. Philosophical counseling is emphasized as particularly important in mitigating the negative effects of AI use, promoting critical thinking, self-awareness, and ethical reflection, and ensuring that technology supports, rather than undermines, human development and flourishing.
