Summary/Abstract: This paper examines Plato’s views on suicide in relation to modern debates on assisted suicide and euthanasia. It argues that his perspective, particularly on terminal illness, remains relevant for philosophical counseling. The study bridges the gap between empirical research and the humanities by emphasizing Plato’s differentiation of suicide in various contexts. It also contextualizes these issues within legislative frameworks, such as the Death with Dignity Act in the U.S., and argues that Plato addressed similar end-of-life concerns for individuals contemplating physician-assisted suicide. Ultimately, the paper suggests that Plato’s insights offer a valuable philosophical resource for philosophical counseling and ethical discussions on assisted suicide.
