Summary/Abstract: This contribution is dedicated to Canadian Francophonie, more specifically to the linguistic situation in Québec. From a linguistic and geographical standpoint, Québec is a very diverse territory that constitutes a stronghold of French, where anglophone forces and the constant desire for the dominance of the English language intertwine. The struggle for the survival of the French language is very prominent in Canada, especially in regions where it is an official or co-official language, namely in Québec and New Brunswick. We will illustrate that the French language would not have managed to occupy an important place in the Canadian Francophonie without the various conquests and struggles for dominance, both historical and linguistic, in North America’s past. We will explain what legal regulations exist in Canada regarding the protection of the French language in the face of the predominant influence of English, considering that the province of Québec is surrounded by anglophone provinces and that there have always been strong tendencies to anglicize Québec. Since Canadian French is particularly distinguished by its recognizable and distinct pronunciation and vocabulary, in this paper, we will present the main characteristics of these two linguistic domains. Therefore, we will also present some anglicisms in the Québec French.
