Summary/Abstract: The paper addresses the affective component in L1/FL language switching among Erasmus+ exchange students attending university courses delivered in the English language. The paper opens with (pedagogical) considerations of the affect as one of several educational dimensions, as viewed by traditional approaches to multilateral education and recent discussions on linguistic identities. The next two sections narrow down the affective focus to the (psycholinguistic) issue of motivation and aspirations, and to the (linguistic) concept of language switching. The ensuing qualitative study examines the affective component of attitude in language switching among exchange students and its interplay with the other educational domains. As evidenced by participant responses, instances of language switching observed in the study represent significant personal experiences that influence the students’ attitudes towards their education and their engagement with the learning and social environment.
