Summary/Abstract: The relative clause with antecedent in the Arabic language has been most extensively studied in classical integral grammars. They primarily deal with their differences arising from the criterion of definiteness and indefiniteness of the antecedent. Contemporary studies reveal their other significant aspects by establishing typological characteristics according to universal criteria and contrasting them with similar constructions in other languages. On the other hand, the free relative clause in the Arabic language has not been researched to the extent that it is represented in different types of texts. Research in the Arabic language has most often been conducted from the perspective of transformational-generative grammar. Corpus research is almost non-existent. Therefore, this paper will deal with the free relative clause in Surah Al-Baqara. We will try to describe the formal aspect and frequency of free relative clauses in the sacral functional style. Using examples from the corpus, we will determine their distribution and present which syntactic positions and functions they occupy within a complex sentence.
