Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes selected phonetic-phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical features of the speech of Bakići. The aim of the study is to determine whether this variety, taking into consideration the presence of the variables analyzed, belongs to the southern sub-dialect of the East Bosnian Ijekavian Šćakavian dialect. The paper also aims to establish its relationship with the neighboring northern speech varieties and to examine whether—and to what extent —the standard language has displaced (or is displacing) its dialectal features. The research is based on fieldwork, including the recording and interviewing of native speakers, the transcription of the audio material, the synchronic description of the selected features, and, partly, the application of the comparative-historical method of analysis. The presence of the selected Ijekavian Šćakavian determinants in this speech variety will confirm its affiliation with the southern sub-dialect of the East Bosnian Ijekavian Šćakavian dialect, its connections with the neighboring northern varieties, and will indicate which dialectal forms are currently undergoing attrition in this area. The results of this study represent an important contribution to the completion of the map of BosnianHerzegovinian speech varieties, with a particular emphasis on the East Bosnian Ijekavian Šćakavian dialects.
