Sustainable tourism development as a challenge for the modern tourism policy

Summary/Abstract: The article contains the main challenges of the modern tourism policy such as forming the constant competiveness of the subjects and the areas of tourism reception based on the rules of sustainable development. The work presents the concepts of sustainable tourism as well as the analysis of the strategic documents which create tourism policy on the international level regarding the consideration of the problem of sustainable development. Then, on the basis of the questionnaire research, the knowledge of the inhabitants of Podlaskie Voivodeship on the subject of sustainable tourism has been estimated. The research was conducted in 2010-11 using the method of the direct standardized interview.
