Summary/Abstract: In this article, the prefaces and the commentaries of the two Bulgarian translations of Gorski vijenac (1847), namely, the ones of Petar Ivanov (1891) and Dimitar Panteleev (1949), are examined. We emphasize the significance of thematic and stylistic specificities of the paratextual units that represent the ideological characteristics of the sociocultural and literary discourse of the target language explicitily showing the genealogy of the different strategies adopted by the translators. The role of the paratextuality in integrating the traslated text to a complex system of intercultural relations within the target culture is explored as well.
