Summary/Abstract: The reviewed monograph is not a typical – written by legal scholars – publication full of proposals for constitutional changes. Rather, as the authors write, it is based on an empirically selected set of six problems affecting the work of the Indian Supreme Court and requiring remedy. These problematic issues, ripe for reform, include: difficult access to the Supreme Court for India’s poorest citizens; the excessive length of proceedings; the overly influential role of the so-called senior advocates; the questionable impartiality of the Chief Justice of the Indian Supreme Court in assigning cases to judges; the lack of diversity in the selection of judges to that highest court in India; and the relatively early mandatory retirement age (65) with its impact on case resolution. The reviewer critically assesses the proposed improvements within the aforementioned scope. Most of the studied shortcomings are common to other bodies of that type. Also, in other jurisdictions, no satisfactory solutions to those problems have been found.
