Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to summarize the current state of knowledge on the use of art therapy in reducing anxiety associated with imprisonment and to assess its rehabilitation potential. The main research problem was to assess the impact of art therapy on the mental condition of persons deprived of liberty and to discuss its rehabilitation value. For this purpose, an analysis of the documentation of conducted and completed art therapy in the Remand Prison in Kielce was carried out and a systematic review of scientific research was conducted. The article discusses anxiety from the perspective of various psychological concepts and lists selected sources of anxiety specific to conditions of penitentiary isolation. The basic assumptions of art therapy are presented, followed by a review of research on its effectiveness in reducing anxiety in persons deprived of liberty, taking into account its rehabilitation value.
