Summary/Abstract: The text briefly discusses psychological and pedagogical definitions of attention. Based on the literature on the subject, it gives an overview of how it functions in preschool and early school-aged children. Typical symptoms of attention deficit disorders and their causes are presented, which may prove useful in recognizing them. The data cited confirm that not all causes will be preventable, as some are genetically inherited. An attempt has been made that when children have attention difficulties, it is not only the parents' efforts that are important, but also the actions of teachers and specialists. In educational practice, the teacher's therapeutic competencies are highly beneficial, so the final part of the article proposes examples of good practice to develop children's attention span.
