Student of special educational needs in a public school - challenges and potential for providing support. Results of own research

Summary/Abstract: The concept of special educational needs has been functioning in the Polish education system for many years and this concept includes both students with behavioral and learning difficulties, as well as the capable students who need an adjusted curriculum and appropriate methods of help and support. Therefore an observation could be made about the work that needs to be done by the public schools to provide the conditions for growth to pupils of special educational needs, that take into account their potentials and expectations. Taking into account the obvious needs of students in this regard as well as our own professional experience, a research was carried out with the main question phrased as: How do students of special educational needs function in selected public schools in the Lubelskie voivodeship? A pedagogical survey of quantitative nature was conducted in the 2024 year among 70 teachers of early-school education from a number of primary schools in the Biała Podlaska county of the Lubelskie voivodeship. The research used deliberate selection of sample groups. The results show that there is a need to revise the implementation of the idea of supporting and helping students of special educational needs, especially on the level of primary schools, taking into account the local environmental influences.
