Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to stimulate discussion and research on class groups, also known as combined schools, in various types of schools in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In this publication, the author presents class groups operating in secondary education in Galicia between 1850 and 1914. He highlights the role of these organizational solutions in the creation of new gymnasiums and realschules. He demonstrates that they facilitated the resolution of national issues in secondary education. He also highlights the importance of class groups during the transitional periods when realschules were transformed into gymnasiums. He emphasizes that the class groups operated thanks to the work of 73 school administrators, i.e., principals and managers, over 400 teachers, and numerous representatives of school and local government authorities, as well as individuals who supported the development of education.
