Summary/Abstract: The study analyzes the four “Narrationes” from Grammatica slavo-ruthena (1830) by the Transcarpathian grammarian Mykhaylo Luchkay that were adopted by th e Galician awakener Markiyan Shashkevych for his Ruthenian textbook (originally compo sed in 1836). It examines whether these texts were deliberately translated “f rom Transcarpathian Ruthenian” into “Galician Ruthenian” or merely adapted. The article focuses on orthograp hic, lexical and grammatical aspects of Luchkay’s work. The analysis confirms that Luchka y did not limit his attention to any “Rusyn” language in the modern sense, but considered the entire Ukrain ian linguistic area, although he clearly focused on its southwestern par t. Shashkevych’s adoption of Luchkay’s texts is characterized by very few changes that would suggest a translation rather than an adoption.
