Summary/Abstract: The study examines the history of the daily newspaper “Délvidéki Magyarság” between 1941 and 1944, situating it within the political, social, and intellectual-historical context that followed the reannexation of Délvidék (Southern Territories) to Hungary. It presents the newspaper’s predecessor (“Délmagyarország”), the circumstances of its change in title, its editorial and publishing structure, as well as the changes in the composition of its editorial staff (Imre Deák, János Csuka, Ferenc Tiller-Timár, József Bogner). The paper analyses the programmatic writings of the journal, its ideological self-definition, and its interpretation of the “Idea of Saint Stephen”, while also exploring how it constructed the identity and historical role conception of the Délvidék community “liberated” from minority status. – The author pays particular attention to the transformation of the press experience acquired during the minority years into rhetorical and moral capital, as well as to the ways in which nation-building, the Christian-national ideological framework, and the question of coexistence with national minorities appeared in the columns of the newspaper. Adopting both press-historical and intellectual-historical approaches, the study investigates the operation of “Délvidéki Magyarság” and contributes to a more nuanced understanding of the history of the Hungarian public sphere in Bácska during the Second World War.
