Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on insufficiently-studied topical similarities between Njegoš’ The Ray of Microcosm (1845) and religious epics of Konstantin Marinković (1784–1844), Vikentije Rakić (1750–1818) and Gavrilo Kovačević (1765–1832). The results should confirm the initial thesis on Serbian pre-romantics as initiatiors of poetic-epic genre which reached its climax in the Serbian literature with the very work of Njegoš The Ray of Microcosm. Special attention shall be paid to the comparative analysis of the main negative hero’s status, i.e. on numerous similarities in the characterisation of the one of key participants to the cosmogonic conflict between Light and Darkness.
