Competences of Students in Modern Digital Environment and Digitalization of Education in Moldova

Summary/Abstract: Modern education of youth in the Republic of Moldova is a purposeful process of development in an individual of characteristic positions and norms of behavior that shape the individual’s attitude to the phenomena of public life, as well as a certain model of civil and general culture based on formed competencies. Civic education and the formation of citizenship plays an important role in the life of every person. Modern socio-political and economic transformations associated with the construction of civil society and a democratic, rule-of-law state require the formation of active subjects who effectively participate in the democratic process. Society currently urgently needs a generation of competent citizens who accept democratic values and make responsible decisions in situations of choice, disagreement and crisis, and who have a developed sense of responsibility for the fate of the country. Currently, the need to develop the civic competence of the younger generation is becoming obvious, because this will allow them to competently enter into relationships with society, political institutions, and public organizations, which is necessary for building a prosperous democratic society and the rule of law. In this regard, a special role belongs to civic education (within the discipline of Education for Society), which has ample opportunities in the formation of critical thinking, citizenship, and social/civic competence of the individual. The concept of “competence” is the ability of an individual to find within himself, to use, and to apply in practice in an organized, flexible and coordinated manner exactly those resources and abilities that are available and in demand in each specific situation.
