Summary/Abstract: Stable expressions of foreign origin are considered common for many languages. General stable polylexical units (SPUs) are classified as those that entered the language through learned pathways: biblical, mythological, or based on historical realities, the latter being the focus of this study. Initially, SPUs emerged as denominative or connotative language units, allowing speakers to express attitudes toward specific events in the surrounding world. Over time, as languages evolved, some SPUs remained motivated, with components retaining their original meanings. Other SPUs, initially motivated, became demotivated, losing their connection to the original phenomenon they described. Regarding historical phraseological units,, we can often state that they have lost their original motivation, with their meaning now understood primarily by educated individuals or those with specialized knowledge in etymology and history.
