Summary/Abstract: Widespread and extensive network of memorial museums in BiH required, in addition to formal integration of museums, integration of total expert and scientific achievements of all the memorial museums in one place, to ensure and improve the best possible conditions for the development of general museology activity in BiH. The idea to form a registry service for the network of memorial museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina was developed during the 1970s. Establishment of Documentation Centre at the Museum of Revolution in BiH enabled a coordinated and unified process of expert museum activities, and verification of final results compliant with the requirements of contemporary museum practices and museology discipline. Established as the centre for information, initiatives and discussions on all relevant issues of expert activities of memorial museums, it dealt with standardisation and harmonisation of expert museology, publishing, scientific, methodological, educational and exposition work. It was the place for analysis of scientific problems and proposals for their solving, and at the same time it initiated further education and training of staff. It developed forms of critical analysis of results of museum work, and in a sense it became a coordination body for monitoring primary expert and social roles of museums of recent history. As a step forward and novelty in the BiH museum activity, it strived to become a separate scientific research unit within the labour organisation of “Memorijalni muzeji revolucije BiH” (Memorial Museums of Revolution in BiH). Initial failure to integrate the memorial museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by new social and political discourses, led to integrating extensive documentation and material from all the stated processes of BiH activity of memorial museums of recent history into today’s collection of the History Museum of BiH. Upon inspection of material at the Documentation Centre, in order to identify its actual thematic nature, estimate its preservation and classification for research and use, and potential electronic processing and digitalisation, this research was carried out as a contribution to the study of this unique museum collection in Bosnia and Herzegovina, witnessing fruitful expert and scientific museum work in the second half of the 20th century in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
