Summary/Abstract: Based on the used sources and literature, the paper analyses the urbanisation method in Sarajevo after the end of World War II, primarily in the territory of Sarajevsko polje, former outskirts of the city. Industrialisation and wave immigration to the city bolstered construction of large residential settlements, which, in addition to unlicensed individual residential construction would shape the city anew. Social residential construction was the primary feature of the spatial development of the city in socialism. The 1970s and 1980s were decades of overall modernisation in the 20th century. Due to a new expansion wave in the city, well-known settlements in Sarajevo (Alipašino polje, Otoka) were built, including representative public buildings – symbols of the city, and during the preparations for the Olympic Games and city planning, the youngest city municipality of Novi Grad was built in 1977. Since then, in further planned areas, modern settlements of Mojmilo and Dobrinja were built, with all the different necessary infrastructure, including shops, health care centres, libraries, schools, and kindergartens. During this time, despite more frequent crises of socialist society, the city was at its peak of development, represented by the 14th Winter Olympic Games held in 1984.
