Summary/Abstract: There is an enormous range of Njegoš’s interest in Man and the World that surrounds him – external and internal. It was noticed by many people dealing with Njegoš (Njegošolozi). Dr Ivo Andrić records that there are no areas of spiritual creativity unknown to the “Hermit of Montenegro”. I will quote ad literam a writing of Prof. Dr Slobodan Tomović, an editor of the so far only encyclopedia of Njegoš, published in Podgorica ten years ago: “Njegoš’s work has hundreds of aspects. I have not encountered a single important philosophical concept, from ancient times to the classical German philosophy, that he did not cover ... Njegoš communicated with some of the greatest minds of his time ... He is without a doubt a world thinker.” In my presentation I have confined myself to one of these aspects, which was interesting not only to Njegoš and his time, but also to our, modern time. Three very specific aspects are emphasized in the title of the presentation: Njegoš’s Serbian people, Montenegro and Montenegrins. Using the so-called vertical aspects of spirituality, values of his time and of modern times are compared. Thus, via facti the conclusion were and are made that Njegoš’s ideas are always original and modern. This was initially the topic for the scientific meeting. However, some changes occurred: I accepted the suggestion to redirect that topic − Why Njegoš’s thought is always contemporary − to a scientific meeting held in MASA in October 2013, and here to present the topic initially prepared for the scientific meeting in Montenegro. I pointed out in conclusion that Montenegro can see everything that surrounds it through Njegoš’s work. Without Njegoš, it cannot see even itself. Today, they claim that Njegoš belongs to them and to no one else. They have even argued with some neighbors from the region about that. And, sometimes, they ignore the ceremonies organized in Njegoš’s honor. At the same time, Njegoš does not need anything – even many jubilees held in his honour; but contemporary Montenegro needs them for the world to learn about its good reputation.
