Summary/Abstract: The identification of bodies in advanced stages of decomposition remains one of the most complex challenges in forensic and medical-legal practice. As soft tissues deteriorate, conventional visual recognition becomes impossible and many biological markers essential for identification undergo progressive degradation. This article examines modern techniques and interdisciplinary approaches that support the identification of highly decomposed remains. Particular attention is given to the role of DNA profiling, forensic anthropology, forensic odontology, radiological comparison and emerging technologies such as forensic facial reconstruction and post-mortem imaging. Environmental factors, taphonomic processes and the condition of the remains are analyzed in relation to their impact on the availability and integrity of identifying features.
