Summary/Abstract: The centennial celebration of the Romanian Patriarchate in 2025 is an auspicious occasion to study the rationale and history of the project that elevated the Romanian Church to the rank of patriarchate in 1925 and to honour its founders. Among those who played an important role in the broader process of Church reorganization and unification, which took place after the Great Union (1918) and culminated in the proclamation of the Romanian Patriarchate, was Bishop Miron Cristea of Caransebeș, elected Metropolitan of Ungrovlahia and Primate of Romania on December 18/31, 1919, then elevated to the rank of Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church on February 4, 1925. This study analyses the ecclesiastical career of Miron Cristea between the Great Union of 1918 and his enthronement as Patriarch of Romania. The study consists of three sections, beginning with an introduction to his biography, with a special focus on the specialized literature regarding the work and activity of Patriarch Miron, followed by a presentation of the social context, the political and ecclesiastical factors that led to his election as Metropolitan of Ungrovlahia and Primate of Romania, while the final section follows his activity and major contribution to the jurisdictional and canonical unification of the Romanian Orthodox Church, the drafting of the new Church Statute and the new law on the organization of the Romanian Orthodox Church, adopted in May 1925, the establishment of new dioceses and the filling of vacant episcopal seats, the founding of the Romanian Patriarchate in February 1925, as well as his role in the successful organization of the ceremonies for his installation in the patriarchal seat on November 1, 1925.
