Summary/Abstract: Obesity represents one of the most significant public health challenges of contemporary society. As a chronic disease and a major risk factor for the development of numerous non-communicable diseases, its prevalence has been steadily increasing worldwide, including in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The development of obesity is the result of a complex interaction of genetic, metabolic, dietary, lifestyle, and psychological factors, as well as the influence of the social and environmental context of modern life. In addition to its negative impact on physical and mental health, obesity has pronounced social and economic consequences for communities and healthcare systems. Effective management of this issue requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach that includes preventive and intervention measures at the individual, family, community, and national levels. Through the implementation of effective public health policies, health education, strengthening of healthcare services, and improvement of living environments, it is possible to reduce the prevalence of obesity and enhance overall population health.
