Summary/Abstract: This article draws on the perspective proposed by Mirosław Kocur in In the Power of Theatre: Actors and Spectators in Ancient Rome and applies it to Flavius Josephus's Autobiography. It examines the text for concepts, terminology, and practices associated with theatrical art in order to assess the extent to which Josephus's self-presentation may be understood through a performative lens. The analysis emphasizes the multilayered character of Josephus's identity, showing it to be considerably more complex and problematic than has often been acknowledged. In conclusion, the article offers an axiological interpretation of the roles enacted by Josephus within his autobiographical narrative.
