Summary/Abstract: The present study deals with religious tolerance in the work of Bolzano’s disciple Michal Josef Fessl, specifically in his historical treatise Reports and Reflections on the Hungarian National Synod of 1822. The author’s reflections on religion appear primarily in the paratext: in the preface (through two letters Fesslwrote to a Protestant publisher in an attempt to defend his ideas) and in the afterword. The study summarizes and interprets Fessl’s views in the context of his life and bibliography, but above all in the context of Bolzanist religious philosophy and ethics. It therefore compares them primarily with the views of Bolzano himself, but also occasionally with those of other disciples of the German-Italian philosopher. An even broader context for interpretation is then provided by the Catholic or Christian Enlightenmentin general.
