Summary/Abstract: Purpose: The primary objective of this study is to examine the theological method developed by Richard Hooker (d. 1600), one of the founding figures of the Anglican religious tradition, and to reveal its influence on the tradition of religious and political thought that took shape in England after the Reformation. Hooker's theological method is significance as a model for understanding the distinctive Anglican Church tradition. Indeed, his manner of thinking, which integrated Scripture, tradition, and reason, became a pivotal element in the shaping of Anglican identity. In this context, one of the objevtives of this research is to elucidate the manner in which Hooker’s theological methodology influenced the Anglican conception of the via media. Method: The present study, which problematically addresses the significance and influence of Hooker's theological method. It conducts qualitative research and employs comparative historical analysis. Hooker's foundational work, Of the Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity, is examined as a primary source, and its argumentative structure is evaluated through intratextual analysis. Furthermore, a comparative reading of contemporary Catholic, Reformed, and Puritan literature is conducted to for the purpose of understanding Hooker's methodology. In this context, the study evaluates Hooker’s method by comparing it with the traditioncentered approach of the Catholic Church and the radical interpretation of the sola scriptura principle of Puritan theology. The study also analyzes the historical continuity of Hooker's thought by considering the views of some theologians who became influential in the Anglican tradition after Hooker. This methodological approach facilitates for the evaluation of Hooker's method within both its historical context and broader context of the development of Anglican theology. Findings: The research has determined that Hooker's theological method exerted a significant influence on post-Reformation English Christianity. While the scope of Scripture's authority was restricted to matters of faith and salvation, Hooker recognised a complementary role for tradition and reason in domains such as church order and worship. Consequently, he developed a moderate model that transcended both Catholic dogmatism and Puritan literalism. The study has demonstrated that Hooker's method, centered around the concept of the via media, acquired both an “exclusive” (rejecting the extremes of Rome and Geneva) and an “inclusive” (integrating diverse Christian elements) character. Conclusion: The findings indicate that Richard Hooker's theological methodology exerted a foundational influence on the development of Anglican thought. The intellectual underpinnings of the principle of the via media in subsequent centuries were established by this method, which also shaped the distinctive character of the Anglican Church, thereby demonstrating its foundational influence. Hooker’s methodology remains crucial to contemporary theological debates, illustrating the potential for establishing a sustainable equilibrium between reason and revelation, tradition and innovation. The paucity of studies in this area in the current literature suggests that the research’s original findings will inform further research. Research exploring the relationship between Hooker's method and issues such as religious pluralism and authority in contemporary Anglican theology, or examining the reflections of his theological legacy in modern Christian thought, is expected to increase the theoretical and methodological depth of the field.
