Summary/Abstract: The idea of non-formal education is linked to the fulfilment of the needs of adults to acquire new knowledge and skills and to develop attitudes that will help them function more easily in the modern world. Education is associated with learning in schools and universities, and adult lifelong learning is perceived similarly. What prompts adults to return to the experiences they acquired while following traditional formal education paths? What motivates them to deliberately resume the learning process, already in a much different form of structured adult education? The most pertinent question is which competences acquired in the post-school educational activity support the daily functioning of adults.
