Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyse the doctrine of academic freedom proposed by Ronald Dworkin To this end, two tasks are undertaken The first is reconstructive in nature and consists in recreating the most important elements of the position I am interested in, while the second can be described as "critical" and essentially boils down to a brief discussion of several doubts and objections that can be raised against Dworkin's argument The discussion is organized as follows First, I draw attention to the change in the sociopolitical context of the discussion on academic freedom, which, in Dworkin's view, took place at the end of the last century Next, I briefly characterize the analytical theoretical framework adopted by this American author, which he uses as a model for developing interpretative concepts, including the concept of academic freedom that is of interest here Then, following the order resulting from the aforementioned framework, I will reconstruct the following: the pre-interpretative understanding of the practice referred to as "academic freedom," the interpretative assignment of an axiological justification to it, and the post-interpretative formulation of postulates for optimizing the practice In the next section, I will move on to the critical part, in which four fundamental doubts regarding Dworkin's approach will be discussed The text will close with a few final remarks
