Summary/Abstract: The Fatih Mosque in Şebinkarahisar, known to have been built by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror, suffered two fires and was rebuilt in 1888. The mosque, which had served the people of Şebinkarahisar for many years, was damaged and rendered unusable after the 1939 earthquake centered in Erzincan. This situation caused hardship for the people of Şebinkarahisar, and the issue was followed up by the General Secretariat of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), which conducted assessment studies regarding the restoration of the mosque. On July 17, 1944, Halit Başaran, the Director of Public Works of Giresun Province, personally inspected the mosque and stated that, due to the extent of the damage it had sustained, it was in a condition that could not be restorated. However, the people of Şebinkarahisar established the Şebinkarahisar Fatih Mosque Construction Association in order to restore tthe mosque. The association was chaired by Kazım Erden, the Mufti of Şebinkarahisar. Following the efforts of the association, a fundraising campaign was organized for the restoration of the mosque, and eventually restoration works for the Fatih Mosque were initiated. The restoration process was completed in 1950.
