Summary/Abstract: This article aims to analyze the theological concept of ”redemption” from an Orthodox perspective, focusing on the three fundamental dimensions of this concept: sacrifice, ontology, and recapitulation. In Orthodox tradition, redemption is considered a salvific work carried out exclusively through Jesus Christ, who, through His sacrifice on the Cross, opens the path to the restoration of humanity and the re-establishment of the communion lost with God. According to Orthodox teachings, sin and death entered the world through one man, and Christ, through His sacrifice, confronts death and restores the relationship between man and the Creator. The sacrifice of Jesus Christ is the supreme act of obedience to the divine will, through which He defeats death and restores the communion between man and God, offering boundless love that restores the lost order of the world. The ontological dimension of Redemption shows how Christ elevates human nature from sin, restoring its dignity as a son of God and opening the path to the deification of man, thus transfiguring human existence. Recapitulation of Redemption emphasizes that Christ gathers all humanity into Himself, becoming ”a new Adam”, making salvation possible for all people. However, it is realized only through man’s affirmative response to divine love, transforming Christ’s sacrifice into an ongoing and personal reality for every believer. Through his hymns, Saint Romanos the Melodist integrates Orthodox dogmatic teachings in a way that is accessible and moving for the faithful, presenting the vision of salvation brought by Christ in a profound and liturgical manner. Thus, his work becomes an essential tool for internalizing and living this salvation in the ecclesial and personal life of each believer. The Byzantine hymnography of Saint Romanos the Melodist plays a central role in Orthodox liturgical life, continuing to inspire and nourish the spiritual life of the Church, deepening the understanding of Redemption and transforming it into a living reality in the lives of the faithful.
