Summary/Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the phonational closure levels of professional Classical Turkish music and Opera singers and to determine whether there is a significant difference between the medial closure strategies of these two genres, which have different aesthetic timbre goals, at the sound source level. Method: The study included 7 professional Classical Turkish music singers and 6 Opera singers. The laryngeal activities of the participants were visualized using the flexible nasopharyngoscopy method. Based on the obtained images, the degree of vocal fold approximation in the midline (glottic closure) during performance was analyzed by expert laryngologists using a standardized 5-point rating scale ranging from "Very Open (1)" to "Very Tight (5)". Results: Statistical analyses revealed no significant difference between the medial laryngeal approximation scores of the two groups (p>0.05). Similar levels of glottic closure were observed in both groups, especially in high registers and passages requiring high effort. Conclusion: The findings suggest that although musical style and timbral preferences differ, the phonational closure mechanism used to ensure the vocal loudness and carrying power required in professional singing is based on a common physiological foundation across genres.
