Summary/Abstract: This paper examines two books by Milovan Djilas and two different ways in the interpretation of Njegoš’s work. In the first book, entitled The Legend about Njegoš, Djilas does not speak much about Njegoš’s work as far as its interpretations. Djilas renounces the value of an idealistic critique and, in reference to the book by Isidora Sekulić – To Njegoš, a Book of Profound Devotion, he examines its shortcomings due to materialist critique which establishes a bond between the past and the modern era. In his second book entitled Njegoš: the Poet, the Monarch, the Bishop, Đilas does not deny the interpretation of Isidora Sekulić, but in the analytical dedication to the phenomenon of Njegoš, he often invokes and recounts her attitudes concerning the poetic and structural essences of Njegoš’s work. The author of the paper concludes that the second book was not only a turning point from the first book, but a literary implemented dialogue regarding artistic and other values of Njegoš’s work.
