Summary/Abstract: Sound plays an important role in shaping the landscape, creating the so-called soundscape, i.e. a mosaic of sounds in a given place and time. It affects the mood, emotions and perception of the space by its users. Sound is one of many stimuli found in the city, which can enrich the experience of specific places and strengthen the bond with them. The aim of the study was to learn about the sounds occurring in the Old Town area of Bydgoszcz and to characterize them necessary to prepare guidelines for sound management in urban space. The study used field-camera spatial analyses. Examples of sounds from the biophonic, geophonic and anthropophonic categories were presented. They present variable time of occurrence and location. Noise is also present in the soundscape. Mill Island and its neighboring areas are characterized by high potential in terms of the occurrence of sounds that can be perceived as pleasant. The developed guidelines for managing the sound of the Old Town in Bydgoszcz were based, among other things, on green infrastructure, which is part of the idea of sustainable urban development.
