Summary/Abstract: Consumer credit, as a type of loan agreement, has always been of social and economic interest due to its specific characteristics. In this context, its most specialized form, real estate credit, has been considered as the one that gives "a more precise definition to credit" (our emphasis). Due to its particularities, lending to individuals has benefited from permanent European and national regulation. This study aims to briefly present the legislative evolution of credit agreements on two representative levels: consumer credit and real estate credit. The doctrinal and practical interest is justified by the need to reconcile the difficult consumer provisions. The paper is structured in three parts: „Contractual protection of consumers. General framework”, „Consumer credit and its legislative evolution” and „Mortgage loans – a special lending operation”.
