Summary/Abstract: Holy Baptism is the first of the Sacraments of the Holy Church; it is the way by which one enters the Holy Church of Christ and by which the baptized is offered the possibility of receiving the other Sacraments. Baptism is a Holy Sacrament by which the baptized is received into a new, divinized community in the Church of Christ. According to the teaching of the Orthodox Church, Baptism is that Sacrament instituted by the Savior, in which, by being immersed in water in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, the baptized person is cleansed from the stain of the sin of the ancestors and from all the sins committed before Baptism, is reborn to a new spiritual life and becomes a member of the mystery of the Lord’s body. Being so important, Holy Baptism must be performed according to the rites and canons that the Church has laid down throughout the ages.
