Summary/Abstract: Roland Rézműves’s article analyzes Michael Thalheimer’s 2001 production based on Lessing’s Emilia Galotti from the perspective of melodramatic compression and posthuman corporeality. In Thalheimer’s production, the text is pushed into the background, and the emphasis is placed on the actors’ bodies, the monotonous musical motif, and space as a character. By comparing Novarina’s, Lehmann’s, and Husserl’s embodiment theories, the analysis reveals that Thalheimer’s production, through the dynamics of the body and the relationship between proximity and distance, conveys not a realistic story but concentrated sensations, thus transforming Lessing’s bourgeois tragedy into a postdramatic vision of bodily liberation.
