Summary/Abstract: This study analyzes the aesthetic, and pedagogical characteristics of the genre of non-professional literary theatre through the example of Tibor Debreczeni’s lyrical oratorio Perlő ének (Song of Lament). The article shows how this form functioned in the 1960s and 1970s as a non-institutional, community-based, and political theatrical practice. The analysis focuses on key aspects like symbolic acting, associative dramaturgy, and the central role of the choir. It also highlights the influence of this type of stage performance on student theatre and later alternative theatre movements, as well as its connection to the avant-garde experiments of the so-called Zöld Szamár Színház (Green Donkey Theatre).
