Summary/Abstract: In her research, Anna Balázs-Bécsi examines the consolidation process of theatre activity in Miercurea Ciuc and the development of audience demand at the beginning of the 20th century. Using the example of this small Szekler town, the author presents the situation of rural theatre making at the time, the system of theatre districts and theatre areas, as well as the relationship between the audience and the theatre as an institution. The study attempts to reconstruct events from the source material of the weekly newspapers Csíki Lapok and Székelység, and also draws on theoretical works such as Tamás Gajdó’s volume Színháztörténeti metszetek a 19. század végétől a 20. század közepéig (Segments of Theatre History from the End of the 19th Century to the Middle of the 20th Century) and Judit Pál’s Városfejlődés a Székelyföldön (1750–1914) (Urban Development in Székely Land Between 1750–1914).
