Summary/Abstract: At Karnak, in the courtyard of the Middle Kingdom, a mysterious little platform has been observed four times since it was excavated in 1947 by H. Chevrier. In 2021, the dismantling of its north east corner revealed, 80 cm below its surface, the remains of a Middle Kingdom garden on which Byzantine ceramics were unex pectedly found. The same pottery was found deeper down, where the garden had been destroyed by a deep foundation trench. This article will explain why the platform could only have been built from the Byzantine period onwards to fill the drainage shaft installed by Amenhotep I in his limestone foundation.
