Windows to heaven, or about stained glass windows in Churches in Pila (Piła)

Summary/Abstract: The article defines the term „stained glass”. Its functions and significance in the sacred space of the church in Pila (Piła) are discussed. Stained glass windows in four temples of the town are characterized, the designer and the maker – stained glass artist are indicated. It is emphasized that the stained glass windows in Pila (Piła) were made in the studios of artists – masters of this art of the twentieth century. The content analysis of the stained glass windows is performed and their theological meaning is explained. Attention is drawn to the need for regular examination of their technical condition and for conducting conservation and restoration works.
