Summary/Abstract: In the history of Serbian theater, Hugo Klein holds a prominent position primarily as a director. However, his engagement in the field of theatrical theory and practice was far broader and highly diverse. He was the author of opera librettos and novel dramatizations, a translator of Shakespeare‘s works, and a theater critic. Of particular importance is his contribution to the development of theatrical theory and pedagogy, especially in the domain of directing, where he applied innovative methods based on his knowledge of neuropsychiatry. This paper examines his aesthetic views, which he passionately conveyed to students over more than two decades, as evidenced by his theoretical works, textbooks, interviews, and the recollections of his contemporaries.
