Summary/Abstract: In the second half of the 20th century, Radio Niš represented a significant cultural centre and promoted musical life, not only in the city but also throughout southeastern Serbia. Although there are few written sources about the programming activities following its establishment, valuable information about the role of this media house can be found in the journal Radio Niš. An analysis of the content of the published issues from 1951 and 1952 shows that Radio Niš played an important role in the popularization of culture and the development of the domestic music scene in the post-war period. It had its own Symphony Orchestra, which was initially “small” and later grew into a large ensemble, as well as the Radio and Pioneer Choir, the Pioneer Radio Group, the Folk and Tamburitza Orchestra, the Entertainment Quartet, the Guitar Ensemble, and the Mixed Double Octet. It engaged numerous artists—singers and instrumentalists of folk music, including soloists on traditional instruments such as the frula (a type of flute), gajde (bagpipes), and accordion. Through authentic performers and their interpretations, Radio Niš significantly influenced the music scene of Niš and southeastern Serbia.
