Summary/Abstract: Vocal-related musical terminology in domestic vocal pedagogical and scholarly literature and practice is significantly inconsistent and heterogeneous, which is partly due to the considerable number of adopted loanwords that are not adequately standardized. However, the practice of adopting useful terms and new meanings is not unique to the Serbian language; at any given moment, it depends on the influence of dominant musical and vocal cultures. This article is dedicated to examining foreign terms that have entered the Serbian musical vocabulary since the establishment of the bel canto solo singing pedagogical practice during the 20th century. Today, vocal practice and voice science also recognize other, non-artistic genres whose specific terminology not only creates separate areas of voice pedagogy but also offers an opportunity to enrich and specify the linguistic resources used to describe the contemporary voice in music. The aim of this text is to identify the styles, vocal techniques, and specific vocal phenomena that have found, to a greater or lesser extent, their place in Serbian science and pedagogy, to recognize the influences of different musical cultures in our environment, and to assess, through the lens of the specific phenomenon of the Anglo-Serbian language, the justification for introducing a special terminology for the extreme voice—that is, for the voice in metal music that uses extended vocal techniques.
