Summary/Abstract: This document is the 2023 Christmas Pastoral Letter authored by Archbishop Timotei of Arad, entitled "The First Enrollment of the World". The text explores the profound theological and historical significance of the Roman census during which Jesus Christ was born. It highlights how this earthly enrollment ordered by Caesar Augustus symbolizes the spiritual enrollment of believers in the Kingdom of Heaven. Drawing extensively from Orthodox hymnography and traditional carols, the Archbishop emphasizes the dogmatic depth of the Nativity. Furthermore, the letter concludes with a strong pastoral call for active Christian charity and philanthropy, especially towards the sick, the elderly, and the lonely.
