Summary/Abstract: After the Great Migration of the Serbs in 1690, at the time of the Patriarch Arsenije III Crnojević, the Diocese of Buda became one of seven dioceses of newly established Metropolitanate of Karlovci. Much earlier than in other parts of the Habsburg Monarchy, Serbian population in this diocese acquired bourgeois elements, due to their strong community of tradesmen and craftsmen in Buda and Szentendre municipalities. Many times, they criticized even the highest church authorities. After the Empress Maria Theresa executed the reduction of the clergy, the number of priests was significantly reduced in all parishes. This source shows the strength of Serbian houses and priests in the Diocese of Buda in 1771/1772, just after this reduction. The document is filed in the Manuscript Department of Matica Srpska in Novi Sad under number M 4.175.
