Summary/Abstract: The paper explores Edward Dennis Goy’s interpretation of Njegos’s works in his outstanding book The Sabre and the Song in the context of the reception of Njegos and his works in the Anglosaxon world. The accent is put on Goy’s analyses of The Mountain Wreath in the context of the European poetry. The interpretation of The Sabre and the Song by the prominent scholar Svetozar Koljevic is also presented in the paper. Goy’s application of close reading, a technique developed by the New Critics is identified. What is also shown is that Goy’s approach focuses on the Game of Njegos’s characters, which is played on a broad scale. The Games are of ethical nature and of existential importance, though they are played through a conflict with different rules.
