Summary/Abstract: Our analysis of “After the Hunt” looks at the play upon appearances and essence, meaning to show how the characters turn out to be very different from the almost-glamorous ones that they pretend to be. Also, corruption is at the seat of the academic system as well, and skewed or debatable logic is at play on the social plane. The metaphor used to encompass this whole picture is that of a hunt, a sort of law-of-the-jungle functioning as a valid reference point for the dynamics proposed by the movie. After the Introduction that sets the context and announces our intention, we start with a thorough analysis of the party scene, as it has the function of revealing through details the actual state of the matters beyond the glittering outward show. We continue with the section dedicated to mind games, which shows how advanced emotional and mental disturbances can get in the characters’ interactions, and, after a brief passage through the feminist issues chapter, integrated into a wider plane of social transformation, we pinpoint aspects related to the moral profile of the main characters. In the end, we sum up the results in the Conclusions. The perspective is cultural and identity studies.
